As has been thrown around since last night, if the Seahawks and Packers win next week, Seattle will host the NFC Championship game. Now, that is highly unlikely, but it's at least fun to think about.
Keep an eye out on the reaction about the Eagles' loss. It wasn't pretty, particularly for coach Andy Reid. (That hope-killing pick from Mike Vick didn't help either. But at least Vick had a season of redemption; how about Reid?)
Hard to have much to say about the Ravens' win over the Chiefs, except to say: Of all the games this weekend, "Called it!" Hard to believe that Ravens-Steelers next weekend in Pittsburgh is only the 2nd-best game of the AFC Divisionals.
BCS Title Game: Oregon has not played a defense anywhere near as good as Auburn's this season. Then again, Auburn hasn't played an offense anywhere near as good as Oregon's this season. Something's gotta give -- or maybe not. Maybe these teams score into the stratosphere, and it is simply the team with the ball last winning the game on that drive.
My pick? As explained in TheWizOfOdds' annual compendium of "expert" picks, I'm going Auburn 57, Oregon 55 in 3 OTs. Today is a day to go big.
Carmelo Trade Talk: The players involved are staggering -- a possible 13 in all, in a move that will send Carmelo, Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton to the Nets; Derrick Favors and Devin Harris (plus a load of 1st-round draft picks) to the Nuggets; and a couple of relatively useless assets to Detroit, which just wants to unload some salary. If nothing else, it makes the Nets interesting again. And as long as they're not winning a title -- and they're not even close, now and in the future -- they might as well be entertaining.
Football Hall of Fame finalists: As long as Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders get in -- and they should -- everything will be fine.
Looking ahead this week: Pats-Jets. That's enough for everyone, isn't it?
