al davis 7 tips
After the Raiders' emotional, by-their-fingertips, "just-win-baby" win over Houston, the day after owner Al Davis passed away. (screencap h/t: KSK's Michael Tunison)
Al Davis was a great American sports villain, the best of his time, the best of all time. He was great, I think, because he played it big. Joe Posnanski(via SI.com) , putting Al Davis in the perspective we all know best (and how he would likely want to be remembered) -- as The Villain (but the one who Won.)
What Al Davis brought to football was their aesthetic, their vibe, their wardrobe. Their situational morality. He wore the same wised-up tough guy nihilism they did. The same hot cool. The same sunglasses. Jeff MacGregor(via Yahoo Sports) , pinpointing Al Davis' pivotal moment as the late-60s, where he mirrored some of the great anti-heroes in pop culture: "Lee Marvin in Point Blank. Frank Sinatra in Tony Rome. Steve McQueen in Bullitt."
