Griffin was so obviously not himself, and so tentative moving around, and the Redskins and their medical staff should have seen this. Griffin clearly has a they'll-have-to-drag-me-off-the-field mentality and needs to be protected from himself. Shanahan should know this. I believe he should have pulled Griffin out of the game before the half, for good... By the middle of the second quarter, it was obvious to anyone watching that a healthy Cousins would have been a better option than a limping Griffin. By treating Andrews as a pawn to win a press conference and then relying upon Griffin's evaluation of his own health as the ultimate measure of his ability to perform, the Redskins showed exactly how little they care about truly evaluating their quarterback's health. They turned the decision-making over to Shanahan, who would normally have the ability to make a tough decision that would be the best thing for his team and his star player, but Shanahan alternately allegedly lied and passed the buck to avoid making that tough decision. Bill Barnwell(via Grantland) , adding: "Shanahan's story, in the end, saw him rely on that most tried-and-true coaching adage. "You've gotta go with your gut," Shanahan said. He might have thought about considering his eyes, too."

Of course you can be injured at any moment. You can really get injured at any moment, though, when you can no longer move around and avoid hits. It was all a lie and that's why rookie quarterbacks aren't supposed to make the call. Coaches are. Griffin didn't have a coach Sunday.

He had Mike Shanahan, who looked at this mess, looked at each hapless Redskins drive, looked at every painful RG3 step, looked at every awkward, overthrown pass, and instead bought Griffin's weak arguments and then closed his eyes and lied to himself that it would all turn out OK.

Except it didn't. Dan Wetzel(via Yahoo Sports) , adding: " So Robert Griffin III did his job Sunday, only to have Mike Shanahan not do his. And now Washington can only hope a playoff loss was the worst thing that happened because of it."

Should Shanahan have benched Griffin? Should doctors have made the call? Should Griffin have pulled himself? Probably. That would have been the reasonable thing to do. But football isn’t reasonable. Griffin came in with a plan, and at least to the extent that events have transpired, it has worked to perfection. The Redskins are a team molded in his image: prepared, confident and full of belief in their mission. By lining themselves up behind their 22-year-old leader, the Redskins have allowed Griffin to lead them, if not to the promised land, then right to the edge of it.
