The question the NFL season seeks to answer isn't who is the league's best team; it's who is the league champion. And in answering that question, the Ravens provided us with the latest reminder of one of the few things we actually do know about the modern NFL: As long as you make it to the playoffs, it doesn't matter how you got there. And once you're in the playoffs, you can throw just about everything you think you know about a team out the window. In each game, the Ravens were the more aggressive team when it came to in-game decisions. I'm not suggesting that they won specifically because they were more aggressive, but it definitely helped their chances."

John Harbaugh was so drained when I found him 70 minutes after the game. Forget what he said all week about not having any sympathy for his brother if Baltimore won. "I am totally devastated for my brother,'' John Harbaugh said. "It's strange -- I don't really feel emotion right now. No tears. I never thought you could feel 100 percent elation and 100 percent devastation at the same time. But I learned tonight you can." The game will not be remembered as consistent or especially pretty and the shame of the power outage is that how it will be the biggest XLVII memory, taller than Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco's deserved MVP or even the final NFL game of the attention-grabbing linebacker Ray Lewis, whose retirement announcement wasn't supposed to motivate his team this far. Baltimore's ascension was remarkable—they had bumbled towards these playoffs and had to win huge games on the road, but they'd been relentless and aggressive and withstood every challenge. I'm picking the 49ers because I really believe they're going to dominate at the line of scrimmage and dictate the way this game is played. That should also remind you of the 2007 (and 2011) Giants, as both those teams beat up the Patriots at the line of scrimmage and messed up their timing on offense. San Francisco's offensive line has been its unexpectedly elite weapon all year. On Sunday, I'm expecting them to show up and win the game for the 49ers. Bill Barnwell(via Grantland)
