womens world cup 100 tips
If true equality means giving women's sports the same sort of analysis with which we scrutinize the men, then it shouldn't be considered crass, unknowledgeable or unpatriotic to suggest or think the USWNT choked. Jemele Hill(via ESPN.com)

And from Dan Shanoff (via DS.com): ""Pressure Makes Us" was a wonderful ad campaign for the team -- I suspect they would want to be held to no less of a standard than 'championship or failure.' If we can't have an intelligent discussion about the totality of the USWNT's efforts -- from the 'never-say-die' attitude to the late-game chokery -- then we do them and us a disservice."

What would your USWNT cover title be? We're sharing headlines (serious and fun) on the Quickish Facebook page.

From SI's Grant Wahl, a neat data point: "Sports Illustrated soccer covers from 1980-98: 3. Soccer covers from 1999-2011: 10."
As strange as it sounds, this final might have been the best thing that could happen to American women's soccer... The media covered the U.S. team more as a sports team than as a roving band of inspiration. And because of the way the final played out, it wasn't even possible to reduce this team to some quality of can-do gutsiness. Brian Phillips(via Slate) , who added: "For most of Sunday's game, the U.S. women didn't look like plucky underdogs. They just looked like a team that was really good at soccer. As an American fan, I wish they'd won, but for a sport that struggles to garner its share of attention, it's significant that I absolutely can't wait to see what they'll do next."
