Started in 2011, Surging in 2012: Broken Grip of NCAA?
The N.C.A.A. claims it has the legal right to do all the above and more. And maybe it does. But it certainly would be worthwhile to see someone challenge its cartel behavior in court. The inevitable rollback of the $2,000 stipend and the four-year scholarship would be an awfully good place to start. Joe Nocera(via New York Times) , who has a must-read in this weekend's New York Times Sunday Magazine: "Let's Start Paying College Athletes." Kicker:

"College sports will become more honest once players are paid, and more honorable. Fans will be able to enjoy football and men’s basketball without having to avert their eyes from the scandals and the hypocrisy. Yes, it’s true: paying players will change college sports. They will be better, too."
